ELECTRIC GATES

We fit a lot of electric gates. Most people want them after they’ve spent a winter getting soaked opening gates, or they’re fed up with delivery drivers leaving the gate open.

Sliding gates are popular if you’ve not got space for swing gates. They run on a track with a motor rated for the weight – usually 400kg or 600kg depending on gate size. The track needs to be dead level. We’ve sorted out three sets in the last year where someone else fitted them wonky and they kept jamming halfway. Level matters.
Intercom systems make sense if the gates are set back from the road. Video entry’s come right down in price – you can see who’s there from inside the house. Handy for deliveries. We wire them in as part of the job.
Motors need servicing every couple of years to ceck the mechanics, oil the moving parts, make sure the safety sensors work. The sensors stop the gates if something’s in the way – kid, dog, car. They’re required and they’re just sensible anyway.

Installation takes two or three days depending on what we’re starting with. If you’ve got gates and just want them automated, that’s quicker. New gates and motors together means a week in the workshop making the gates, then we come fit everything.
