Commercial gates are bigger, heavier, and tougher. They are designed to handle constant everyday use and do not wear out after just a few months. We have fitted commercial gates for schools, factories, yards, and all types of businesses.
The owners of these businesses and schools want gates that offer full security after hours but will also allow for rapid access during busy periods. Our commercial gates are manufactured from heavy gauge steel and are fitted with high-quality locks, hinges, and motors that will last for years.
Sliding commercial gates have some advantages over other types of gates. They work with a motor to slide across a track and do not need have swing out clearance. We are able to supply commercial sliding gates that are 6 metres in length. When done right, these gates slide smoothly and do not bounce. It is important that the track be level and the concrete be level, or else the sliding gates will not work properly.
When we supply swing gates for commercial use they are usually supplied in pairs. That is 3 or 4 metres on each side of the gate. We ensure that the gates are properly braced so they don’t sag. Then we use proper industrial hinges that are rated for the weight. When domestically rated hinges are used we have seen many gates sag. It is a false economy to use domestically rated hinges.
Most of the time, automation gets specified. Electric motors, access control, and remote automation. Safety features, photocells, and safety edges. If there’s risk of hitting vehicles or people, the safety stuff is required.
Increased height might be needed depending on security requirements. Standard commercial gates are usually between 2 to 2.4 metres. High security sites may require 3 metres or more which may include anti-climb mesh or topping. We’ve done security gates for compounds that needed a serious deterrent.
Galvanising is a standard practice. Gates are exposed to all outdoor weather and frequent industrial environments. Hot-dip galvanising offers the best protection, and powder coating offers protection and adds aesthetic value.
Integrating access control is common practice. Gates can be linked to entry systems, CCTV, barriers, and anything else the site’s security has. We’ve coordinated with access control specialists to ensure all systems are integrated. It’s straightforward, but it does require some planning.
When it comes to lead times, they are longer when dealing with commercial projects. The fabrication process for large commercial gates requires 2 to 3 weeks in the workshop. Automation may add several days to installation. In order to limit disruption, installations are usually scheduled for outside business hours or weekends.
Fire safety is important on some sites. If gates obstruct a fire exit, we need emergency release mechanisms. This allows fire services to access the area quickly without needing codes or keys. There are also building regulation fire safety requirements for certain commercial properties.
Having maintenance contracts for automated gates is a good idea. During annual servicing, gates are checked for motor functionality, lubricated, safety features are tested, and adjustments are made. This catches problems before they lead to breakdowns. A gate that won’t open during deliveries is a significant cost.
We have experience doing commercial gates throughout South Yorkshire. We’ve worked on everything from large factory entrances to small yard gates. Each site is different, and we screen based on what is needed.
Contact us to discuss your needs. We will conduct a site access and security assessment to understand how gates will integrate into your operations. Quotes are detailed, so you understand what is included.
